My Genealogical Journey
In 1997, I became bitten by the family history bug. Josephus Hicks and Lovant Hicks, III, whom I affectionately called my uncles, shared our family history research with me. Initially, I was fascinated by the people who shared my last name, then I was intrigued by where they came from, and finally, I decided to trace both my paternal and maternal lines of ancestry! I am hooked! And now I want to help others learn about their families' stories!

Having discovered my family's story, I wish to allow others to discover their own. A significant part of American history is rooted in African American culture. In school, we are taught a very limited and inaccurate amount of African American history. The more we research our own stories, our truths, our legacies, the more we honor our ancestors, our personal heroes and heroines, and the more we add to the collective histories of Black Americans.

Being a genealogist is a fulfilling journey that involves not only assisting others but also expanding my knowledge. It also involves delving into the mysteries of my own family's history. Each project presents its own unique challenges, but the rewards are immeasurable. By working together and continuously learning, we can uncover fascinating stories and create meaningful connections that enrich our understanding of the past.
